Type 97 Chi-Ha
The Type 97 Chi-Ha was a medium tank used by the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II. Introduced in 1938, it was designed primarily for infantry support and early armored warfare. The tank featured relatively light armor and was initially armed with a 57 mm gun, later upgraded to a more effective 47 mm high-velocity gun to better combat Allied tanks. Its mobility and reliability made it one of Japan’s most widely produced tanks, seeing action in campaigns across China, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific islands. Despite its early successes, by the later stages of the war, it was outmatched by more heavily armored and better-armed Allied tanks.
